Depuis plus de 15 ans, je parcours régulièrement le Costa Rica, fasciné par sa faune sauvage tropicale. J’ai commencé par y étudier les oiseaux avec des scientifiques étranger pendant plusieurs années. Cela m’a permis de découvrir le pays en profondeur et d’accumuler des connaissances sur sa faune sauvage. Le Costa Rica est pour moi un des plus beaux pays pour photographier la faune. Il y a beaucoup d’animaux et il est relativement facile de les approcher pour les prendre en photo.
Aujourd’hui photographe professionnel, j’y guide des séjours de photos nature via l’agence Objectif-Nature. Malgré sa réputation de haut lieu touristique avec une grande fréquentation, le parc a beaucoup à offrir pour la photographie animalière. Il est particulièrement connu pour ses primates tels que les singes capucins, les singes écureuils et les paresseux qui sont fréquemment observés et offrent de belles opportunités pour la photographie. Le parc abrite également de nombreux lézards et oiseaux.
Pour maximiser vos chances de faire de belles images, je vous conseille d’y aller à l’ouverture, tôt le matin et de faire les sentiers faciles d’accès parcourant la forêt. Vous pourrez ainsi profiter d’une nature luxuriante et faire de très belles images avec une belle proximité avec les animaux sauvages. Vous aurez également accès à de jolis points de vue sur le littoral où la forêt tropicale vient se jeter dans l’océan.

Elle est particulièrement connue des herpétologues du monde entier pour la grande quantité et diversité de reptiles et d’amphibiens qui y habitent. C’est le royaume des grenouilles ! Beaucoup d’entre eux ont même des points d’eau pour attirer les amphibiens et des mangeoires pour attirer les oiseaux colorés. Personnellement, j’aime bien loger au Selva Verde Lodge ou à la station biologique de la Selva qui possèdent tous les deux de très belles forêts. Je vais également souvent chez Dave and Dave Costa Rica Nature Park ou un très beau jardin est aménagé spécialement pour la photographie animalière. Au centre du pays, dans la cordillère de Talamanca, se trouvent les forêts de montagne du Parc National Los Quetzales et du Cerro de la Muerte. J’adore l’ambiance qui règne dans ces montagnes, où les nuages enveloppent la forêt luxuriante recouverte de mousse et de plantes épiphytes. L’altitude varie entre 1300m et 3200m, point culminant de la cordillère, il peut faire parfois froid et humide. Sans doute l’un des plus beaux oiseaux au monde, il est le symbole du Guatemala et a alimenté de nombreuses légendes. Il ne se trouve que dans les forêts de nuages à partir de 1500m et se nourrit principalement d’un petit avocat qui pousse sur un arbre local. Un téléobjectif sera de rigueur pour arriver à capturer en image la beauté de cet oiseau unique. La meilleure époque pour les photographier est entre avril et juin, pendant la période de reproduction. Le mâle et la femelle se relaient au nid, souvent dans une cavité à l’intérieur d’un arbre, pour couver et nourrir ensuite les petits. A bonne distance, vous pourrez ainsi faire de belles images sans les déranger.
En fonction du lodge que vous choisissez, vous pourrez également photographier d’autres oiseaux, notamment différentes espèces de colibris inféodés à ces zones montagneuses, comme le magnifique Colibri Insigne (Panterpe insignis). Elle est entourée par les eaux cristallines de la mer du Golfe Dulce et l’océan pacifique. Pour y accéder, vous pouvez prendre un bateau à Bahia Drake ou marcher 20 km depuis le sud de la péninsule. Ces deux options vous mèneront au point de contrôle du parc national appelé La Sirena. Cette base d’exploration du parc offre le gite et le couvert aux visiteurs de plus en plus nombreux. J’en connais de très bons, je vous conseil de passer par l’agence Surcostours car ce sont de très bons guides naturalistes, très attentionnés et passionnés par leur travail. Je vous conseil de privilégier un matériel photo relativement léger car ici il faut un peu marcher pour explorer les environs et approcher les animaux. En tant que guide expérimenté et expert en voyage, j’ai des endroits secrets que je ne partage qu’avec mes clients. Si vous êtes intéressé pour partir avec moi, je les accompagne en général en avril, quand la météo est idéale.
